Our Interior Design Team answers your FAQs about the Curved Back Parson Counter Stool - Set of 2.

  • How many barstools will fit in my space?

For this, you will always measure from the center of your barstool seat. First, measure 12-15" from the wall or end of the bar to the middle of your seat. This is where your first barstool sits. Next, measure 26-30" to the center of your next barstool. Whatever measurement you choose between 26-30," be sure to keep it consistent throughout the exercise so your barstools are all equidistant from one another. Also, your first measurement of your first stool should be exactly half the measurement of the rest. Ex: Start with 14" between the first stool and the wall, then proceed to have 28" between the rest of the stools. If you don't have the stools in front of you to do this exercise, I recommend making a small diagram where every centimeter equals 1 in. Cut out circles or squares that are the width of the stools you are purchasing. Make a line on your paper that is as long as your counter top. This way, you can easily move them around and measure to see how many you need or can fit!

  • The barstool I like lists assembly required. How much assembly will I be doing?

While assembly varies from stool to stool, barstool assembly is relatively simple. Generally, you are attaching the seat to the legs. Occasionally, you will also need to attach the back. Adjustable barstools with a gas lift typically don't even require a tool to assemble, so even though these seem like they would be complicated, they are very simple. If you don't want any assembly, look for a backless barstool, as most of these ship without assembly needed. Also, as a general rule of thumb, the less assembly you have to do, the more sturdy your barstool is going to be. This means that commercial grade or contract grade stools are more likely to require less assembly. Some of our metal stools are completely welded together and come ready to use.

  • Will an adjustable stool work for my space?

Adjustable stools are made as a one-size-fits-all approach to the 'Counter Stool vs. Bar Stool' problem. Most adjustable stools will easily work as a counter or bar stool. The most common problem is if they don't go low enough for your counter table, so make sure that the minimum height works with your space. Keep in mind, the base of adjustable stools are typically made to sit in one place. You don't want to place these somewhere that you need to move them around often.

  • How do I decide whether or not I want a back or arms?

Backs and arms add comfort to your stool. If the intended end-user will be sitting in the stool or a while, you may want to consider adding a back and arms. The biggest benefit of backless barstools is that you can hide them under your counter top, so they make less of a statement in the room if you don't want the stool to be the focus.

  • How tall does my barstool need to be?

Start by measuring the distance from the bottom of your table top to the floor. Subtract 10, and that is how high your barstool seat should be. 'Barstools' are typically around 30-36 in. 'Counter Stools' are typically 24-29 in.

  • What is the difference between Counter Stools and Bar Stools?

Counter Stools range from 24-29 in. tall from the seat to the floor. Bar Stools range from 30-36 in. tall from the seat to the floor.

  • What is faux leather and how will it perform on my barstool?

Faux leather can either be a completely synthetic material, such as Polyurethane (PU), made to resemble the look and feel of leather, or it can be a bonded/recycled leather. Bonded/recycled leathers contain some actual leather, but are backed by cloth. All faux leathers have the potential to crack and peel. They work great in food areas, though, because of their easy care and because they don't absorb fluids. They are also much more price-friendly than full grain leathers. Not all faux leathers are created equally and will wear differently. DEQOR strives to only work with vendors who use longer-lasting faux leathers. However, if you are concerned about what faux leather is on the stool you love, feel free to contact a DEQOR concierge to help explain your faux leather specs in detail.
